Sarah began her journey in music at the age of six on the violin (after persistently begging her parents for violin lessons!) and started piano lessons a few years later. During high school she became a tutor to some of her piano teacher’s students, helping them to practice during the week and of course playing lots of musical games! She continued to study the piano to complete her Associate Diploma in Piano Performance as well the grade seven musical theory requirements. Sarah has over 8 years experience in teaching music and is committed to continuing education, participating in numerous conferences, courses and workshops each year. These days she runs her own piano studio, whilst also studying veterinary medicine and playing piano at events such as weddings and church services.
Sarah loves to teach and focuses on making sure her lessons takes place in a fun, positive and friendly environment. She also places a strong emphasis on creative learning and enjoys teaching her students how to improvise and compose their own music from an early age, and also emphasises game based learning. Her lessons are designed to suit individual student’s needs and goals and all students are taught to improvise, compose and to play modern music, lead sheets and duets as well as develop their ability to play by ear. She also chooses supplementary music to suit each students tastes (including a comic book based series of piano songs designed especially for young boys!) and subscribes to a piano book club and game club to ensure her lessons remain fun, fresh and relevant. Sarah enjoys creating practice incentive challenges and practice games for her students to complete at home and planning fun performance events and themed lessons throughout the year.
